Gamerules BlackJack

Blackjack is a fairly easy casino game with a high chance to win. The rules of the game are easy to learn. The aim of Blackjack is to gain 21 points with the cards in your hand. The cards 1 untill 9 represent their own value. De cards 10, J, Q and K represent each a value of 10 points. The Ace can be counted as a 1 or an 11.

Soft hand

If one of the cards in your hand is an Ace and the other one for example a 6 then it is called a soft 17. When the next card you hit is for example a 7 then the value of the Ace turns into 1 and the total in your hand will become 14. This is to prevent that your total will not be higher then 21.

Amount of players

In total 6 people can join a game of Blackjack but usually the number of players will be 1-5. As you can see there are often other players present at the table. However you have no interference with them or them with you, Blackjack is always played against the bank/dealer.

The dealer has 6-8 decks of playing cards, which he shuffles and distributes. He starts with the player on his/her left. You can place your bet before the cards are being distributed. The layout of the blackjack table is almost the same in each online casino. The only difference can be in the height of the bets. This can vary from low to high amounts of money.

After each player has placed his/her bet they will receive 2 cards. You have access to your own cards and one card of the dealer, which is visible, the ‘up-card’. You do not know what his/her second card is. If your two cards consist of a 10 ( 10, J, Q, K) and an Ace than you have an original Blackjack. A Blackjack defeats a hand with 21 points.

If the dealer also has a blackjack then there will be a draw, also called a ‘push’. Nobody wins and you will get your bet back.

If none of you has a blackjack, there are the following possibilities:

  • Hit: you ask for another card
  • Stand/Pass: you are satisfied with the cards on your hand and you do not want any extra card.
  • Split: you have two of the same cards in your hand. You can split them into two hands. The advantage is that you can win twice, but on the other hand there is also the possibility to lose twice. After you split you can hit again as many cards as you want. If you receive a double card again you may split again.
  • Double down: it is possible to double your bet. After you double you will receive 1 extra card but no more.

Possibility to have insurance

There is also the possibility to buy insurance. This means that you are assured against a blackjack of the dealer. You can buy insurance if the dealer’s first card is an Ace.

It will cost you half your bet. After you bought the insurance the dealer will check his/her cards. If he/she indeed has a blackjack you will receive double the amount of your insurance.

We advise against buying insurance because the chance for the dealer to actually have a blackjack is very small. In the case that the dealer does not have a blackjack you will lose your bet but also the money you paid for the insurance.

Once each player has decided and finished betting the dealer will open his/her card. If the dealer has less or equal to 16 points he/she is obliged to hit another card. In the case the total of the cards is 17 or higher the dealer has to stop. The hand with the highest value always wins, provided that the value is not higher then 21.
