Caribbean studpoker

Since Caribbean Stud Poker is the type of Studpoker which is played the most at online casinos we will discuss the rules of that game on this page. The rules of the game of the different types of studpoker are almost the same. We recommend you to always check the rules of the game on the website of the online casino of your choice. There can be some slight differences between online casinos.

Playing stud poker

Stud poker starts with placing your ‘ante’ on the layout of the table. ‘Ante’ means your first bet. After you placed your ante you will receive 5 cards. The dealer will also receive 5 cards, face down. He will turn over the first of these cards. You may only see your own cards, no other players or the dealer are allowed to see you cards.

After this there are 2 options:

  • If you think the cards on your hand have no value you may ‘fold’. By doing this you will lose your ante but nothing more.
  • If you think the cards on your hand are of good value you may ‘raise’, this considers always the double of you ante.

After each player made a decision the dealer will turn over his other 4 cards. The dealer will only continue if he has an Ace, King or higher. If he does not have this then he will pay each player their ante, the bets remain on the table. If the dealer’s cards are better than yours you will lose. If your cards are better then the dealer’s you always win your ante back and a bonus which is related to the cards on your hand and the bet you made. We made an overview of the payments in the table below:

A pair 1 to 1
Two pair 2 to 1
Three of a kind 3 to 1
Straight 4 to 1
Flush 5 to 1
Full House 7 to 1
Four of a kind 20 to 1
Straight Flush 50 to 1
Royal Flush 100 to 1

It may happen that your cards are the same as the cards of the dealer, for example Ace-King. In that case the highest card is the card that counts, if this is the same too then the 3rd card counts etc. The one with the highest card always wins in this case. If the cards remain the same then your bet will remain on the table until the next round.
